“Which of us, in his ambitious moments, has not dreamed of the miracle of a poetic prose?” —Baudelaire
The prose poem is a border genre particularly suited to tracing/guiding consciousness. In this workshop, participants will explore poetic possibilities while writing works in prose and also reading poetry and poetics from some twentieth-century poetic movements—Imagism, Surrealism, Cubism, Objectivism, Projective Verse, and the New York School. There will be a reading assignment each week and the first half hour of the class will be spent discussing those ideas. Most of our sessions will be spent workshopping your writing.
