First meeting of The Poetics of Writing and Healing

We will use poetry as a springboard for movement towards consolation. This six-week workshop will explore the relationship between poetry and healing through a series of reading and writing exercises based upon work by Rumi, Basho, Marie Howe, Stephen Dunn, Jane Kenyon, Mary Oliver, and others. Looking carefully at a diverse selection of poems and poets, we will consider and write about quests, consoling places, and healing company. We will explore poems that look at the world in new ways: to come to terms with unexplainable events and to transform—through art—the sorrows of the world into understanding.
