Professional Development: Poetry in the Classroom

Update: We still have spaces for K-6 educators, but our spaces for the 7th-12th grade group are full.

In these complex times more and more teachers, community educators, and kids are turning to creative outlets like poetry. On September 12, 2020 from 10 am-12 pm, the UA Poetry Center is hosting Poetry in the Classroom, a 1.5 hour, Zoom-based professional development session for teachers and community educators in Arizona. In this session, you’ll learn how to introduce poetry writing into your classrooms (both in-person and virtual) and community spaces. Each registrant will receive a copy of Poetry Everywhere: Teaching Poetry Writing in Schools and in the Community, to be mailed after the workshop and dependent on your attendance.

The professional development session will be taught by poets and teaching artists Raquel Gutiérrez, Sophie Daws, and Rachel Mindell, and will be split into three age ranges for the workshop portion of the session: K-2, 3-6, and 7-12. Space is limited to 50 attendees, so register as soon as possible! You can do so by filling out this Google form.
