
As Archivist & Outreach Librarian, Julie Swarstad Johnson works with the Poetry Center's archival collections (particularly Voca, the Poetry Center's online audiovisual archive), coordinates physical and digital exhibitions, and manages the daily operations of the Poetry Center Library. She is also the producer for the podcast Poetry Centered.
Julie is the author of Pennsylvania Furnace (Unicorn Press, 2019) and co-editor of Beyond Earth's Edge: The Poetry of Spaceflight (University of Arizona Press, 2020). She has served as Poet in Residence at Lowell Observatory and at Gettysburg National Military Park, the latter of which led to the chapbook Orchard Light (Seven Kitchens Press, 2020). In March 2024, she was a crew member for Imagination 1, a simulated lunar mission with an all-artist crew. She holds an MA in library and information science from the University of Arizona (read an alumni profile here) and an MFA in poetry from Penn State. Learn more about her writing here.
