Tuesday through Friday, February 14 – 17, 7:30 pm
This event is co-sponsored by the UA School of Dance
Both poetry and dance spring from the heart of music: the line of melody, the beat of rhythm. In this collaboration between the UA Poetry Center and the School of Dance, the poem and the dance meet and enchant each other with their music. Love Notes is a series of performances, including Richard Siken reading poems from his award-winning collection Crush to music composed just for this occasion, a trio of love poems by Catherine Wing transmuted into solo dance, choreographies set to selections from Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel, narrations written by Cybele Knowles, and more. Join us during the week of Valentine’s Day for this exploration of all the emotions that love inspires.
Love Notes is directed by Jory Hancock, Dean of Fine Arts at the University of Arizona. The many performances that compose Love Notes include readings by poet Richard Siken, solo dance choreographed by Elizabeth C. George, and music composed by Suzanne Knosp.
