Workshop Session: Wednesday, March 10th, 7:00- 9:00 pm EST, $100

Do you have a dead poem? A piece of poem that seems flat and does not seem to meet your expectations of beauty or craft? Don’t throw that poem out; remix it. In this workshop, we will talk about how to analyze and revise poems. In this workshop, we will open by discussing our ideas about poetry, inspiration, and constraints. We will also debate the authenticity of categories associated within literary genres.

I believe that good writing is “real”. Good writing is authentic. I also believe hybrid writing, the literary weirdo and misfit, is some of the best literary writing. We will discuss how to manipulate the genre constraints of poetry in order to create new writing from old work. In this workshop we will “remix” our poems. In this workshop your writing can be made new by revising the writing using ideas associated with hybrid writing and other genres.
