Rare Book Room Tour (upstairs, Poetry Center): Get your creative juices flowing with innovative examples of independent press work from the Poetry Center’s Rare Book Room, including some beautiful books and journals produced right here in Tucson. From broadsides made of handmade paper to poet trading cards to groundbreaking zines and artist’s books, you’ll find diverse work and big dreams on display. These rarely-exhibited works have been assembled especially for Lit Press Fest participants.

Monoprints & Letterpress Bookmarks
Create simple monoprints on 11x17” and 8.5x11” paper using acrylic or tempura paints. The prints could be used as covers, end papers, or even as illustrations for student publications (or even as the start of a broadside). Monoprints are a really simple but satisfying activity that students should be able to replicate at home or school with very few (and relatively cheap) materials.  At the same time, enjoy a live printing demo with a table top press, thanks to the UA School of Art Book Art and Letterpress Lab. Participants take away a bookmark with a printed poem on it.
