From What I Gather. . . Works by Karen McAlister Shimoda

This exhibition will consist of five of the artist’s current project series of small work: Maps, Poems, Myths, Specimens, and Art Logs. Maps and Poems are ink drawings, and colored pencil and gouache paintings on vellum and paper.Myths are collage work, inspired by the mythological drawings and paintings of old master and contemporary artists. Specimens are ink on vellum drawings mounted on two-inch wooden cubes, like the mounting of butterflies. And Art Logs are deconstructed and altered Moleskines that journal the artist’s interest in color and sound, nudity and exposure, places and note-taking, nightmares and dreams, artistic angst, and the desire for monasticism.  Exhibition runs January 11, 2012 - May 15, 2013.
