In connection with the Like a Hammer Book Launch, visit the Poetry Center's gallery space to view 9 poetry-based film shorts featuring contributors to the Like a Hammer anthology. Six of the films were created especially for the anthology launch and were directed by Jean Coleman and co-produced by Diana Marie Delgado and Amy Holmes. All of the films were commissioned by the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation. During this pop-up showing, the films will be played as a continuous loop with audio available via headphones.

More about the films

The Like a Hammer series of poem films was conceived of by anthology editor Diana Marie Delgado and Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation executive director Amy Holmes as a supplement to the anthology, with support from publisher Haymarket Books. The series showcases the breadth and power of the anthologized poems by incorporating the performances of the poets themselves, drawing on the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation’s experience in bringing poems to the screen.

Director Jean Coleman shot six films in Los Angeles and New York with poets included in the anthology. These six poem films were created especially for the anthology launch and were co-produced by Diana Marie Delgado and Amy Holmes. All of the poem films were commissioned by the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation.  Also shown in the screenings at anthology launch events are three films previously commissioned by the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation featuring the poets of Like a Hammer, directed by Jean Coleman and Williams Cole.
