Quechan-Poetry Center Building Sign Dedication and Celebration

Monday, March 11, 2024 - 9:00am

Join us to celebrate the Poetry Center building sign, which now features a dedication in the Quechan (Yuma) language as part of the University of Arizona’s Native Languages of Arizona Campus Sign Initiative. A collaboration of the University’s Linguistics Department and the Office of Native American Advancement and Tribal Engagement, the initiative is part of broader efforts to make the University a welcoming and inclusive place for Native American students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and to honor the Native Nations in Arizona. The dedication will include remarks from University and Tribal leadership, as well as a reading from Deborah Jackson Taffa, a member of the Quechan Indian Tribe, and Director of the IAIA MFA in Creative Writing, as well as the author of the memoir Whiskey Tender
