This workshop will focus on the success of narrative and lyric within a poem while keeping in mind ideas of restraint and concision in language, of letting go of the need to explain and contextualize ideas and images, in order for the poem to accomplish a lot in a little space. During the first session of this course, we’ll read and discuss a few published short poems from a few contemporary poets, and do in-class writing based on prompts.
During our second session, each participant will have the chance to share one short poem of their own and receive feedback from the group.
