BirúPirúPerú brings together 27 video poems, 22 visual poems on paper, 11 sound poems, 10 artists’ books, and 2 works of multimedia poetry performance, all developed in Perú between 2000 and 2015. The exhibited works explore diverse themes of contemporary Peruvian society such as migration, gender, identity, urban resistance, labor and economic precarity, political violence, marginalization, environmental conflict, language and its representations, and love.

BirúPirúPerú is organized around the collective projects Poéticas Visuales del Exilio [Visual Poetics of Exile], Poéticas Visuales de la Resistencia [Visual Poetics of Resistence], and Katatay [Tremble], all video poetry; Irse de Lengua [Ramble On], sound poetry; Ánima Lisa, a multimedia poetry performance collaborative, La Resistencia de los Cuerpos [Bodies in Resistance], visual poems on paper; and Colección Mutante [Mutant Collection], artists’ books and book objects.
While some of the projects have been presented separately in cities around the globe, poet and publisher Giancarlo Huapaya has brought them together for the first time in this groundbreaking exhibition.
Exhibitions are displayed in the Jeremy Ingalls Gallery of the Poetry Center.
