Artists’ Books: Focus on Photography

Monday, December 3, 2018 to Saturday, February 16, 2019
Photograph of Sanctus Sonorensis by Philip Zimmermann

Artists’ books typically use the form of the book itself as a vehicle for creative expression; the visual impact of the book is part of its story. Artists’ books that blend poetry and photography give readers new ways to experience both word and image, frequently resulting in a powerfully evocative mix of the lyric and documentary impulses. The works in this exhibition merge poetry and photographs to explore diverse subjects, from the streets of Berlin and the clouds of the Sonoran desert to the faces and lives of incarcerated people in Louisiana.

Exhibitions are displayed in the Jeremy Ingalls Gallery of the Poetry Center.
