Our 360 Interactive Tour: Poetry Center History

In 1960, Robert Frost travelled to Tucson to help launch the University of Arizona Poetry Center and give an inaugural reading.  But did you know that the tradition of inviting poets to read a poem at presidential inaugurations is connected to the Poetry Center?  During the Poetry Center’s inaugural festivities, Arizona Congressman Stuart Udall asked Frost to read at President Kennedy’s 1961 inauguration on Jan. 21st, 1961--just three months after their time in Tucson.  A national tradition was born.  Learn more about the Poetry Center’s history by visiting the bust of Robert Frost in our interactive 360 tour of the Poetry Center.
