Charles Alexander

Charles Alexander is a Poet, Bookmaker, founder/director of Chax Press. Author of seven full-length books of poetry and 13 brief chapbooks of poetry, editor of one critical work on the state of the book arts in America, author of multiple essays, articles, and reviews. Most recent books of poetry are Time Being, and AT the Edge OF the Sea: Pushing Water II.  He has taught literature and writing at Naropa University, the University of Arizona, and at the University of Houston-Victoria, where he directed the MFA Creative Writing Program and managed the UHV Center for the Arts. He has created literary fine print and artists’ books that are in collections throughout North America and the UK. He has led courses such as this one at various colleges and art centers, and in the Chax Press studio in Tucson. He has been known to sew books on airplanes, in faculty meetings, and while sitting across a large table from his partner, the visual artist Cynthia Miller, while she paints book covers.
