Deadline for University of Arizona Student Poetry Contests

UA Student Poetry Contest
Academy of American Poets, Margaret Sterling, and Poetry Center Awards

The Poetry Center administers these annual poetry awards, which are open to all full-time University of Arizona students. Contestants must be full-time graduate or undergraduate students at the University of Arizona in the current semester. The following prizes are offered concurrently and are available to all eligible students who apply. Winning prize money will be posted to each students' Bursar's Account. Students are asked to please clear up any charges on their Bursar's account to ensure that they receive their full award. * This year, the Academy of American Poets is pleaseed to announce the addition this year of the Aliki Perroti and Seth Frank Most Promising Young Poet Award. Starting in Spring 2014, students 23 years-old or younger who have won one of the University & College Poetry Prizes sponsored by the Academy of American Poets will be considered for this $1,000 award. Guidelines for the UA Student Poetry Contest:

Open to all full-time, UA graduate and undergraduate students.

2014 Judge: Timothy Liu, author of Bending the Mind Around the Dream's Blown Fuse (Talisman House, 2009).

Deadline: February 14, 2014 by 5 p.m.

We're now only accepting submissions via Submittable. Paper submissions will not be accepted. Please make sure the poems you submit are exactly as you want them. Revisions will not be accepted while poems are under review. Winners will be allowed to revise once the work has been accepted.

  • Submit a typed manuscript of up to three poems (10 pages total).
  • The manuscript should be included in one document.
  • We only accept DOC, DOCX, PDF, and RTF files.
