As you may already know, after serving for over a decade as the Poetry Center’s Executive Director, Gail Browne will officially step down on June 30. In many ways, the Poetry Center is a testament to Gail and the work she has done. For that reason, we, the members of your Poetry Center staff, ask you to give Gail the thank-you gift we know she would appreciate most: a contribution to the Poetry Center.
The Poetry Center you see today is a testament to Gail’s many years of service. When she arrived in 2002,
• the Poetry Center was housed in a couple of small, converted homes on Cherry Street;
• the Center’s library collection lived in and out of boxes;
• and the building we see now was little more than a dream.
Today, the Poetry Center serves its growing communities as one of the most beautiful buildings in Arizona. It houses one of the largest library collections of contemporary poetry in the United States, and hosts readings, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and educational programming that
bring more than 30,000 people through its doors each year.
Many of us have worked hard alongside Gail to make the Poetry Center what it is. But Gail’s clear vision has guided our communal efforts to successfully promote the Poetry Center’s mission in Tucson, the Southwest, and the nation.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 between now and June 30th, 2013. All gifts received between now and June 30th will go into the new Director’s Fund.
Please consider a gift today by clicking here. Your gift will serve as a symbol of gratitude to Gail, and to ensure that the next generation of readers and writers will be able to experience poetry in Tucson and beyond.
Thanks again for your friendship and support of the Poetry Center!
