The Poetry Center’s special collection library is a great place for an interactive, educational, and fun field trip. We offer creative, hands-on field trip curricula for K-12 and University students that encourage a lifelong love of writing and literature. K-12 field trip curricula meets ELA Common Core Arizona State Standards, and University field trip curricula are designed to work across a variety of courses and disciplines. Our staff can create a customized field trip that fits the needs, abilities, and study topics of your group. To schedule a K-12 trip, contact the Poetry Center's Education Program Coordinator, Renee Angle (see below). For Summer 2015, Field trips and tours for grades K-12 are available on T/W/TH from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Beginning in the Fall 2015, field trips for K-12 groups will be offered Fridays, 9 am to 2 pm.
Field trips and tours for University classes are available Monday-Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm.
Please give us at least four weeks’ notice when planning your field trip. We do require 24 hours notice on cancelations. The Poetry Center cannot accommodate groups larger than 40 at this time.

For field trips for K-12 classes, please fax this form to 520-621-5566. We want to help you plan an experience for your students that enriches what you are already doing in your classroom. Please fill out this form completely. Preparing students for a visit to the Poetry Center is important. Here is a tip sheet to help you and your students get the most out of the experience.

For the 2014-2015 school year, groups will be exploring insides and outsides, entrances and exits. How does one enter a poem? How does one enter a building? Students will explore these questions through the books in the Poetry Center’s special collection, including a rare book object, “Inside Chance” by Alberto Rios, as well as the building that houses the collection, to investigate and create their own ideas about the poems and stories they read. Highly interactive, this trip employs chance methods of writing and a nonlinear framework to spark curiosity, conversation, and creativity. This field trip may be repeated on multiple occasions with entirely different results.
