A Closer Look Book Club meets throughout the year to discuss novels and other works of fiction. To participate in a Book Club conversation, all you need to do is read the book and then join us in the Dorothy Rubel Room at the Poetry Center. Our conversations are guided and inspired by discussion leaders drawn from Poetry Center staff, UA faculty, and our community of local poets and writers. Copies of books are available for purchase at the Poetry Center’s gift shop.
No sign-up is necessary: the Club is free and open to the public, and you’re welcome to participate in as many or as few meetings as you like. For more information, email Cybele Knowles at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Shop Talks provide community members with an opportunity to become more familiar with the work of a featured or visiting writer in a supportive and open environment. Each Shop Talk begins with a mini-lecture on the featured author, followed by a conversation about the author and the work. A study packet containing biographical information, excerpts, and criticism is available for each event, and no advance knowledge of the poet or works discussed is required. Discussions take place at 6 p.m. around the Persian rug in the Dorothy Rubel Room. For more information, email Wendy Burk at email@example.com.
