A Closer Look Book Club meets throughout the year to discuss works of prose. To participate in a Book Club conversation, all you need to do is read the book and then join us in the Dorothy Rubel Room at the Poetry Center. Our conversations are guided and inspired by discussion leaders drawn from Poetry Center staff, UA faculty, and our community of local poets and writers.
No sign-up is necessary: the Club is free and open to the public, and you’re welcome to participate in as many or as few meetings as you like. For more information, email Cybele Knowles at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Shop Talks take a "round table" approach to scholarly investigation of poetic works, resulting in a collegial atmosphere. Each Shop Talk begins with a mini-lecture on the featured author, followed by a conversation about the author and the work. A study packet containing biographical information, excerpts, and criticism is made available for each event, and no advance knowledge of the poet or works discussed is required. Discussions take place at 6:00 pm in the Dorothy Rubel Room. For more information, email Wendy Burk at email@example.com
