THIS COURSE IS SOLD OUT

Taught By:

Two Sessions: August 11 and 12
10:00 am to 12:00 noon
Tuition: $55

Successful short poems create energy between a limited number of elements within a small space, and in the silence of what is left unsaid. In this workshop, we’ll study the language of short poems and then write and share some of our own. We’ll read poems by Graham Foust, Aram Saroyan, Ronald Johnson, Mary Ruefle, Kevin Young, Anne Carson, and Tomaz Salamun in order to generate discussion about how short poems work through concision, restraint, elision, and other techniques. We’ll do in-class writing based on prompts. During the second session of the course, each participant will have the chance to share one short poem of their own with the workshop.
