Announcing the Spring 2017 Classes & Workshops and Scholarship Opportunities

The Poetry Center is delighted to announce the Spring 2017 classes and workshops, an exciting mix of long-format writing workshops, generative poetry studios, and rigorous seminars for working writers of both poetry and prose--at all levels. Registration opens for all of our classes on December 6, 2016

We're also pleased to announce the continuation of our Campau/Inman scholarships program. We now offer, each season, four full scholarships that cover the tuition cost of a course offered in the Classes & Workshops program. The scholarships are valued anywhere from $48 (for a single-session craft class) to $256 (for an eight-week workshop), according to recipient interest. Application is simple, and any community member is eligible to apply for a scholarship if they can attest to personal financial need. Selection is by lottery. We are accepting applications now and through January 11, 2016, so please spread the word to working writers for whom tuition would otherwise be a prohibitive financial strain.

The six courses this season include:

Disorienting the Essay: Finding Form in Personal Nonfiction, with Katherine E. Standefer. Eight Monday evenings beginning January 23.

Ecopoetics & Your Next Poem: A Weekend Workshop, with Brenda Hillman. Saturday and Sunday, January 28-29.

Outsider Literature: Writing from the Urgent Edges, with Robert Snyderman. Six Monday evenings beginning February 13.

Documentary Storytelling in Prose, with Lisa O’Neill. Six Wednesday evenings beginning March 22.

Writing Resistance and Recovery, with Hoa Nguyen. Saturday afternoon, March 25.

Oracular Writing: Living Images, with Annie Guthrie. Six Saturday mornings, beginning April 8.

So, whether you're your interested in developing your personal and documentary nonfiction, generating poetry with new emphasis on "raising images," studying and practicing after the example of "outsider" poets and artists, or supercharging your work in craft classes and workshops with expert practitioners and eminent poets, we have something for you. Be in touch in we can be of help.

Again, please note that open registration for all courses begins Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Once again this season, our Submittable electronic enrollment manager makes registration and payment simple. On the morning of December 6, all courses will be live for registration via this link.

Meanwhile, please peruse the course descriptions and more information about the Classes & Workshops program and the Campau/Inman scholarships at our Classes & Workshops page.

See you in class!
